I decdided to welcome the New Year with a little cinnamon and sugar this morning. Oh and butter too. The best butter. Nothing you bake is really that good unless it has lots of butter. And since we are such a wildly crazy family we stayed at home last night. I made the dough and then after the girls were put to bed we watched The Great Outdoors w/ the late John Candy. Who I think ranks up there w/ one of the best male actors. There is a chance he had TO MUCH butter. B/c I am pretty sure he died from his obesity, a heart attack or something. Too bad he's not here to share his talent w/ us anymore.

Ready to Roll

The Cinnamon "Roll" ready to be cut. I use floss instead of a knife. This was taught to me by Great Aunt Lana when I was young and first learning to cook. She ranks up there with one of the best cooks/bakers ever. She should really have a recipe book of her own.

Getting ready to go into the oven. Can you smell them yet?

Frosting Mmmmmm

This is the part I hate. The mess you are left with. The part they never talk about in cook books. Except Pioneer Woman's. She shows pictures of her kitchen mess. That's how you know it's a good cook book. And she is a good cook. The Mess.

One of the best kitchen utensils ever made. It is silicone and used for glazing things. It works great for buttering the bottom of the pans. I purchased it at The Clay Gourmet in Clay Center. Also known as the best kitchen store ever. Owned by the most genuinely nicest Christian people around. Also known as my parents neighbors (well they live 2 miles away but in the country that's how close your neighbors live) Jason and Anette Smith. They also have 3 of the cutest daughters in the world. Next to mine of course. Anette's mother babysat me as a child. I love her dearly. She is the greatest.

I know...it's A LOT of frosting. But the way I see it, if I am making them then I am making them how I like them! And I....like....frosting!

I wish I could say this was "my" recipe. But it is not. It is Pioneer Woman's recipe. I have become semi sort-of totally obsessed with her...and her recipes. For those of you who don't know who she is she has a blog. She is from Oklahoma. She has 4 young children. She is a rancher's wife. And she is an awwweesome photographer. You can find her on my sidebar under blog list. However I did find that I had to bake my cinnamon rolls nearly twice as long as Ree's recipe called for.

The Cinnamon Rolls were a HUGE hit with Gentry. I cut her off after 3! And she threw the biggest fit ever. Her sister thought they were "okay". But she is too much of a modern American child and always prefers anything out of a can or prepackaged versus homemade. I know....I have some work to do with her.

You've totally got me craving some cinnamon roll, ooey goodness right now! :) Thanks for the inspiration! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI can smell them. Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteI got the PW cookbook for Christmas - I am SO excited to make some sweets. Cinnamon rolls have NEVER turned out good for me, so hopefully I can make this recipe!! They look so good!!!!
ReplyDeleteKate...you are just too sweet (must be ALL that frosting!) Thanks for such kind words (and the free advertising:))
ReplyDeleteI, too, am highly addicted to Pioneer Woman but am sad to say that I haven't won any prizes yet:( We had her cookbooks in the store and sold out so I still need to order myself one!
Mom is headed to Hays tomorrow as Lana is scheduled to have their baby (#4) on Monday!!
Will have to agree w/ you on your Great Aunt Lana re: her baking/cooking. She invited us over for supper last Tues for chili and cinnamon rolls...YUM! And you know her, she sent a pan of rolls home with us!
Hope you have a wonderful 2010!!
